After reading the 1st few pages of Call it Courage, what are your thoughts on the book? Can you make any connections to other titles. What do you think about the Characters so far?
Well my impression about this new book i am currently reading call of courage is a sort of sad but detailed story because when mafatu was a little kid his mother died and the last thing she could do was feed him before she died.And i also think it is a very energizing story because he goes into the ocean the thing he fears and faces many challenges when he is in the sea. The book Call it Courage is a very interesting book.The book is very similar to Island of the blue dolphins.The books setting is on a island covered all around with water.I like the book but im not finish with the book.Its time to read more.
What I thought of the story was that i got to understand it . Not like the other one's. When i started reading it i found it interesting so i keep on reading it i found a lot of information in there so I'm going to keep on reading it so i will tell you the rest so time when on this.
I think the book is good and I think it makes a connection to a story called Island of the blue dolphins but a little different because in Call it Courage he is swept away and from then he has been afraid of the ocean but i the Island of the blue dolphins the people native to the island are hunted by hunters so I think it connects a little bit. In my opinion I felt like the little boy was brave and confident because he saw his mom die when she was right next to him. Also if my mom died right beside me and I saw her die with my two eyes i would had felt like my life was over but that little boy stood brave and tall and thats what i admire about the book and that little boy.

What i think about call it courage is that at first it was a sad story because he watched his mother die while feeding him food he will never find on his own and if i watched my mother die i would feel like im nothing any more and i like the book because they talk about how he is trying to face his fears and trying to have courage on the ocean it connect to life in many ways because in life everyone has fears that they need to face everyday so its just telling us how he is just like me and you and i bet at the end he will overcome his fear of the ocean!
in my opinion i think this book is better than tuck everlasting i love that its like island of the blue dolphin what my friend had realaise and its like in hawii or something and i really really like this book than tuck everlasting
I think that the beginning of the story is very sad.His mom died right in front of him after she put the meat of a coconut to her lips.I don't think that Mafatu should be afraid of the water.There is nothing to be afraid of.I don't think it's right for all the other kids to make fun of him like that.Also his father should not be ashamed of him just because he is afraid of water,maybe he will be good at something else.
in my opinion i feel like the boy is brave because when his mom died he was there right next to her and he was confident because he when back out in the ocean where his mom died in thats a brave confident thing to do i no that i would just feel like there is no life for me if that were have happend to me

In my opinion I think this book is the saddest out of all novels out of all I have read so far because this novel has more sadness ,but I think it's sad how Mafatu mother died infront of him and boys and girls pick on him. He was always scared to get in the water every since his mom died it's been a long time he lived without his mother and I think that is very sad.People can be so mean to people and dont know what people been through. -India Harjo
